When times get tough and we come to the end of ourselves, our capabilities, our worldly resources, often what is left is the question, “Where is God?” Many times when we need him most, God seems absent in our lives. Dr. Townsend’s book “Where Is God?” addresses this question and takes a step by step approach to discovering not only where God is, but who He is in many of the circumstances in which a reader might find himself. Additionally, Townsend explores who we are in these difficult circumstances and shows us how God relates to us and what He wants for us.
As a Christian, much of the information in this book was familiar to me. It acted as a good reminder that God is for me and wants good things for me. My belief, however, is that it is much easier to choose God and to accept that He is for me, prior to encountering difficult times. In the midst of hardship it is difficult to believe God is for us. For a non-believer or someone who isn’t sure what to believe, this book provides a clear path to follow in searching for and finding God. The real life stories from the author’s professional practice, as well as the scriptures used show the reader that there is relief in troubling times. I would recommend this book to anyone who is struggling to make sense of the difficulties in life as a way to find God, His hope and His desire for you to live a fuller, richer life.
